Padmé Amidala was nervous, which was strange as she’d known the Chancellor for years. But it was different tonight, because tonight Anakin wanted ask Sheev Palpatine’s permission to properly court her. She briefly wondered if this was how Anakin felt when she asked her parents to allow him to court her. Because of the positions they both held, they had decided to do proper Nabooan courtship which included asking their respective parents or guardian for permission. And according to Anakin the best place to ask Chancellor Palpatine for anything that required his permission was during a performance of the Galaxies Opera House, in fact her boyfriend had mischievously informed her that as a fourteen year old he had gotten his father’s permission to participate in the Vinta Harvest Classic on Malastare during a performance of Squid Lake.
Which was the reason why she was currently all dressed up and waiting on her veranda for Anakin to pick her up. Padmé really wanted to make a good expression on the man who could very well become her father in law in a near future. So with the help of her handmaidens she had carefully selected the dress she would wear to the Opera. She took great care not to dress like a senator but rather as a normal Nabooan young woman who wanted to receive the blessings of her beloved’s father, even if black wasn’t exactly the proper color for it. But Anakin loved her in black and she knew the Chancellor would realize that too. No, Padmé decided one way or another she would’ve Palpatine’s permission because their was no way she would let Anakin, the one thing she wanted for herself, slip through her fingers.
