Anathema Price never felt as though she was really suited to Slytherin – she was half-blood for one thing, with her muggle father’s name equivalent to the evil eye for all the luck she had navigating her house.
But she struggled on. Her house may not be nice to her always but as a house they protected one another and helped one another. When they got to O.W.L.s this became all the more obvious, with people asking her for help with Transfiguration and Ancient Runes.
At first she gave help easily until she realised something important.
She was the best. The best in her year. She could barter this information, she could build a powerbase, help for kindness, of a sort.
And so she did. For each hour of aid she gave a classmate they were to refrain from name-calling hair-pulling, book-stealing for a whole week. And not just her, any of the Half-bloods or muggle-borns in Slytherin.
The younger years loved her – no more were they taunted for their muggle heritage, no more were they laughed at. This gratitude spilled over to the other Slytherins as well and before long the older years were not just no longer bulling themselves, they were actively halting the bullying of other students.
Anathema never did feel quite suited to Slytherin, but ultimately, she was more Slytherin than any of them.

The known rivals Mrs. Valentine Balustrade and Miss Merrily Flint showed up at the spring garden party held annually by the Burkes wearing unfortunately similar brocade robes. We can only guess what cutting insults were thrown beneath a facade of smiles and manners.
